No Excuse for War

By Margaret Munson, As Published in The Union

I am appalled and sickened by the Hamas attack on Israel because I have Hebrew ancestors and am a human being. I am equally appalled by the hypocrisy of Israelis who have suffered discrimination since Judaism existed but discriminate against another people, namely the Palestinians.

There is no excuse for war because innocents suffer on both sides, which is what is happening now. What did Israel think would happen when two million people are confined in a very small area, when they cannot obtain medical care even if they have cancer, when their electricity can be cut off for any reason, when they have no voice in their political future? The attacks are wrong and have set the possibility for true peace back for generations.

I think the attack was masterminded by Iran because our government was making progress in talks with Saudi Arabia, which would have lead to talks with Palestine, which would threaten Hamas. Why the Mossad were not aware of the buildup of troops and war supplies will be investigated. I have thoughts about why but will wait to expound on them. Now is the time to realize that both sides have legitimate needs and that some entity has to begin the process of peace. Politics are naturally part of that process and so is humanity.
