Join us for a meaningful conversation with Shelly Covert of the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribe, who will generously share the Nisenan perspective on Thanksgiving, the rich cultural traditions that have endured since before the Gold Rush, and the importance of preserving and passing those traditions on to future generations.
Shelly will explore an important question: What can non-Native Californians do to become responsible neighbors and meaningful allies to Indigenous communities?
She will also discuss the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribe's ongoing efforts to restore its federal recognition.
Come listen, learn, and gain a deeper understanding of the Nisenan people, their history, and their continuing connection to this land.
